The Calgary Flames got great performances from two rookies and a massive must-win but their future for the NHL trade deadline is still murky and they have a few tough contests taking place in the next week.

The Calgary Flames looked dominant against the Arizona Coyotes, then found themselves down a pair, then tied it, then dominated again to come away with a massive win. But it was the Coyotes. Next few opponents are elite squads. Meanwhile, the NHL trade gridlock loosened a little Wednesday, and the Ottawa Senators set the market for shedding deadweight salary. The Coyotes are back to their old tricks of taking on LTIR salary. The New York Rangers are looking into how to acquire Patrick Kane, and Brock Boeser’s agent is working to find a trade out of Vancouver, with the Flames among those mentioned this week.
